The most rented movie of last year revealed

There’s nothing quite like cozy-ing up on the couch to watch a good movie in the comfort of your own home. New data from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) reveals the top digital rental of 2017 was The Accountant, a 2016 thriller starring Ben Affleck as an autistic accountant who works for the mob.

The movie only made $68 million domestically at the box office. It’s quite different from the second- and third-most-rented films, which are Moanaand Wonder Woman, which were both blockbuster hits. Some reasons The Accountant may have done so well: It was digitally released at the very end of 2016, so it had all of 2017 to keep making money, and it doesn’t appear the film was available on subscription sites like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime video.
