With Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s wedding less than a week away, Buckingham Palace yesterday (May 13th) shared an image of the document of Queen Elizabeth the Second‘s formal consent for the two to get married. The decorated, handwritten document signed by the queen includes among other images a red dragon, which is the heraldic symbol of Wales, a rose, which is the national flower of the United States, and golden poppies, the state flower of California, where Markle was born.
Queen Elizabeth formally gave her consent on March 14th. Under British law, the monarch must give formal consent to the first six people in the line of succession to the throne. After the birth of his new nephew, Prince Louis, last month, Harry is now sixth in line.
