Paul McCartney rocks Abbey Road and premieres new songs

Paul McCartney rocked the Beatles’ legendary musical headquarters, London’s Abbey Road Studio – Number Two yesterday (July 23rd) for a private concert filmed for future release. The Internet was abuzz all day with footage (some shot by daughter Mary) of “Macca” crossing the famed “zebra” crosswalk immortalized by the “Fab Four” on the cover to their final album, 1969’s Abbey Road.

Beatlefan magazine reported “(McCartney) arrived just before 11 a.m. London time, posed briefly on the ‘zebra’ crossing and went straight into the studio, Those in attendance included Kyle Minogue, Orlando Bloom, and Johnny Depp. He left at around 5 p.m.”

McCartney performed a scaled back version of his recent tour’s setlist, including four new songs from the upcoming Egypt Station collection due out on September 7th, “Come On To Me,” “Confidante,” “Who Cares,” and “Fuh You.”

Guitarist Rusty Anderson tells Pulse that recording with Paul McCartney at the legendary Abbey Road Studios where the Beatles recorded the majority of their work is a surreal experience: “That’s pretty trippy. It was really fun, y’know, having Paul show us around and say, ‘Oh, this is the room that we recorded ‘Yer Blues’ in. We all set up in this little tiny room and crammed the drums and the amps and everybody in there, and recorded it.’ And I’m like, ‘Damn!’ (Laughs) That’s pretty amazing.'”

Paul McCartney maintains that whether he’s playing a high profile gig, winning awards  (or simply struggling to get a track right in the studio) keeping a level head and doing good work is the ultimate result: “The thing is you think about it, the first time we ever went out with the Beatles was risky. I mean, y’know, we were no one and we had to build the whole thing up. I think every time you go out, from time to time, you’re just not in your hottest period, y’know, record-wise. So you just go, I just do my best, y’know, try to play some good music. If people come and see me, y’know, then great. If they buy the album: better.” (Pulse)
