Bee Gees widow says group biopic is ‘in the bag’

It’s looking as though the Bee Gees‘ life and career really is heading to the big screen. According to Britain’s Daily Mirror, despite aborted attempts at stage musicals and even a film produced by Steve Spielberg, the story of Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb is slowly gaining steam. Robin’s widow Edwina Gibb shed light on the upcoming project, revealing, “Our film is in the bag. We want to get the right writers. We are in discussions. We have to get agreements from the three families — Barry, Yvonne (Maurice’s widow), and myself. It’ll be interesting.” There’s been no timetable set for the production — or any word if the movie will also feature the meteoric rise and tragic end to younger brother Andy Gibb‘s life and career.

Edwina went on to say that she’s discovered previously unheard Bee Gees-related music: “I have loads of stuff. Robin might have put something on a recorder somewhere. My son (Robin John) is putting it all together.”

Back in November, Universal Pictures president Jimmy Horowitz announced that Barry Gibb would serve as the executive producer on the Bee Gees project, which will heavily feature the group’s legendary catalogue and would be created with the full cooperation of the estates of Maurice and Robin Gibbs estate. Dwina’s recent comments are the first to confirm from anyone in any of the other Gibb camps that the project is moving forward.

At the time Barry Gibb said in a statement announcing the upcoming production: “This is a wonderful opportunity for our family. I’m personally very excited to be a part of the creative process along with Yvonne and Dwina. It’s another adventure for us and a chance to throw the spotlight on all my brothers and finally the real story of us will be told. It’s an honor to be working alongside the people I most respect. I can’t wait to get started!”
