An American Cancer Society report out yesterday (January 8th) said that U.S. cancer death rate has been falling for at least 25 years, reaching the milestone in large part because of advances in early detection and treatment and because of lower smoking rates. The nation’s cancer death rate fell 27 percent between 1991 and 2016, after increasing into the early 1990s. However, despite the gains, obesity-related cancer deaths are rising, including those of the pancreas, liver and uterus, and deaths from prostate cancer are no longer falling.
