‘How to Train Your Dragon’ sores high while ‘Madea Family Funeral’ exceeds expectations at the box office

Tyler Perry’s final Madea release didn’t unseat Universal’s How To Train Your Dragon trilogy at the box office, but it still did well. How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World remained perched on top, bringing in $30 million for a total haul of $97.7 million.

Lionsgate’s A Madea Family Funeral opened in the second spot with $27 million, above the $18 million to $20 million expected. This is Perry’s biggest opener since 2010’s

Alita: Battle Angel rounded out the top 3, bringing in $7 million.

Greta, starring Chloe Grace Moretz, about a young woman who befriends and then is stalked by a senior citizen (played by Isabelle Huppert), disappointed with only $4.6 for its opener.

Meanwhile, following three Oscar wins, Green Book crept back up to the top five after 16 weeks in theaters. This weekend brought the film $4.7 million, for a total haul of $75.9 million.
