How to choose the best name for your dog – according to science

Rover.com says dogs are more likely to respond to “short” and “choppy” sounding napes (think one to two syllables), and a few experts agree that a hard consonant sound in the name like “c” or “k”, helps your dog distinguish their name from other sounds.

Also, avoid names that rhyme with commands, and try to pick one that ends in a long vowel or a short “a”(like Benny, Dolly, or Sweetie.)  The Spruce points out that you should also choose a name that you truly like since you’ll be using it all the time, and you should try to pick a name that’s not super popular right now, as you could then run into confusion at the dog park or at the vet’s office.
