It’s July 1st! Here’s what new Illinois laws come into affect today

There’s something different about today and it’s a bit more than just the new page on the calendar.  Several new laws go into affect today in Illinois: some that may change your daily habits, even!

First off, you’re going to want to make sure you NEVER drive with your phone in your hand.  Even if you’re at a stop light or just checking your GPS, police officers will now ticket you without warning.  They first time, it’s a $75 fine, the second: a $100 and the third a $125 fine!  And, for those of you under 18, you can’t even use handsfree tech to talk on the phone.  Better pull over!

To make things even worse behind the wheel, the state is increasing it’s gas tax by double!  For every gallon of gas you pump into your car, you will be paying a tax of $0.38.  That adds up, so I hope you have a short commute!

Finally, there’s the new Tobacco 21 law makes it so no one under 21 can purchase any tobacco products.  And, for the smokers over 21, you will be paying a tax of an extra dollar on every pack you buy!

Indiana, you’re about to get real popular with Illinois drivers and smokers…
