Woman who licked store’s ice cream in viral video could face up to 20 years in prison

The woman who was seen licking the top of a half-gallon container of Blue Bell’s Tin Roof ice cream in a supermarket and then putting it back in the freezer case could potentially face 20 years behind bars. Blue Bell was able to figure out that the incident took place at a Walmart in Lufkin, Texas, and USA Today reports that police believe they’ve identified the woman. They haven’t released her name, citing the ongoing investigation. Lufkin police said in a statement, “Tampering with a consumer product is a second-degree felony and carries a punishment range of 2-20 years.

The department is consulting with the FDA and federal charges may also be pending.” Blue Bell believes the Walmart was able to retrieve the ice cream tub that was licked by the woman, but as an extra precaution, it had all half-gallon containers of its Tin Roof flavor pulled from Walmarts. Police got surveillance video that shows a woman who looks like the one in the video leaving the Lufkin Walmart at around 11 p.m. on June 28th, the night before the video was tweeted out on June 29th. It has since been viewed nearly 12 million times.
