‘The Lion King’ ROARS to the top of the box office

The House of Mouse had an epic weekend. Not only did The Lion King become the biggest July film of all time, but Avengers: Endgame became the highest grossing film of all time.

The Lion King, starring Beyonce and Donald Glover, raked in $185 million. Disney now owns 12 of the top 13 openers of all time. (Jurassic World is the lone non-Disney holdout).

Critics are split, with a 55% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences are eating it up. Globally, The Lion King has brought in $531 million, already making it the 7th-best haul this year.

Anthony & Joe Russo’s Avengers surpassed James Cameron’s Avatar record this weekend, bringing in $854.21 million domestically and $2.79 worldwide.
