Hunt for Chance the Snapper cost Chicago almost $34,000

It wasn’t an easy search, or a cheap one, for the Humboldt Park lagoon alligator.  Chance the Snapper managed to allude Animal Care and Control and the Department of Streets and Sanitation.  Their overtime and labor costs added up to over $21,000!  And how about for the man who actually caught the gator?  Alligator expert Frank Robb only charged the city $2,500 and an additional $2,166.34 in travel and lodging costs.  Maybe we should have called him first…

Other costs included fencing and barricades which totaled around $8,000.  If it’s a choice of spending $34,000 or letting Chicago become gator town, I think I’d choose the former!
