Elton John tops a list of the greatest musicians to lose the Grammy for Best New Artist.  Elton lost in 1970 to The Carpenters. Some music superstars get to hit the ground running, by winning the Grammy for Best New Artist.  But, some acts LOST that award, but still reached the top anyway.

Billboard.com put together a list of the 50 best artists in that category.  Here are some highlights…

Elton John, 1970.  Lost to The Carpenters.

The Eagles, 1972.  Lost to America.

Chicago and Led Zeppelin, 1969.  Lost to Crosby, Stills, and Nash.

The Eurythmics, 1983.  Lost to Culture Club.

Bill Withers, 1971.  Lost to Carly Simon.

The Four Seasons, 1962.  Lost to Robert Goulet.
