Record $7.4 billion in online sales on Black Friday

People are doing a growing amount of their Black Friday shopping online, with shoppers spending $7.4 BILLION in online sales on Friday, November 29th, just shy of the record $7.9 billion spent on Cyber Monday last year, the one-day record for online sales, according to Abode Analytics. That record is expected to be broken this year on Cyber Monday today (December 2nd), with Adobe expecting online sales of $9.4 billion.

A lot of people are doing that shopping on their phones now, accounting for 39 percent of all online sales on Friday. Among the top items those online shoppers were looking for were Frozen 2 toys, sports video games, and Apple laptops. While online shopping increased, traffic at stores fell 2.1 percent on Black Friday from a year ago, according to RetailNext, helping lead to a 1.6 percent decline in sales.
