Illinois outdoor restaurant seating returning does not mean Chicago restaurants will be opening patios

Governor J.B. Pritzker announced that on May 29th, when phase 3 kicks in, Illinois will be allowing restaurants to reopen outdoor seating.  This does not however mean a green light for all restaurants.  Local government leaders will have the final say and Mayor Lori Lightfoot doesn’t believe Chicago is ready for this.  In a press conference, she said, “I don’t think we’re going to be ready by May 29, but my hope is that soon in June that we will be ready.”

Many suburban towns that feel far enough removed from Chicago will likely see the reopening of their notable restaurants’ patios next week.  And, there’s no doubt stir crazy people just wanting to leave the house and return to normalcy will be flocking to these eateries next weekend.
