NHL teams ask fans to record cheers and chants to play during fan-less games

NHL teams are emailing their season-ticket holders and asking them to record 30-second clips of cheering and chants for their teams that will be played in fan-less arenas during games, as well as during broadcasts and on NHL social media channels.

ESPN said emails it saw asked for things like clapping “Let’s go!” cheers, “We want the Cup!” chants, boo-ing for calls that go against the team, and sound that can be used when a goal is scored. Fans were also given requests for specific chants for their individual teams and players. The NHL’s season is scheduled to restart in Toronto and Edmonton on August 1st.
