Illinois is one of the loudest states in the U.S.

A new study ranked all 50 states from the loudest to quietest.  The rankings were based on four categories: Home size, with small homes being louder, average people per household, people per square mile and cars per square mile.

Based on that, the 10 loudest states are:

  1. New Jersey
  2. California
  3. Hawaii
  4. Florida
  5. Rhode Island
  6. Illinois
  7. Massachusetts
  8. New York
  9. Delaware
  10. Maryland

It’s surprising to see Hawaii in the top 10.  What’s not surprising are the many midwestern and western states with wide open planes that were determined to be the most quiet, including Kansas, Nebraska and Idaho.  You can check out how all 50 states ranked, HERE.
