The NFL is changing its overtime rules so that each team is guaranteed one possession. But only during the postseason.
During the regular season, the team that gets the ball first can still end the game with a touchdown.
The Indianapolis Colts and the Philadelphia Eagles proposed the rule change for ALL games, including the regular season. But there wasn’t enough support among owners for that. So they compromised and made it postseason only.
Under the new rule, if the teams are still tied after each one gets the ball, THEN it becomes sudden death, and the first team to score wins.
