By now, just about everyone’s had their say about the Will Smith / Chris Rock situation at the Oscars… even Will’s MOTHER.

In an interview that aired yesterday, Carolyn Smith said she was surprised to see what her son did. 

She added, quote, “He is a very even, people person.  That’s the first time I’ve ever seen him go off.  First time in his lifetime… I’ve never seen him do that.”

Carolyn says she has spoken to Will since it happened, and she told him to get some rest and take a vacation.

But she’s not letting it keep her from basking in Will’s Oscar glory.  She says, quote, “I am proud of him being him.”
