According to the analytics firm INRIX, the average U.S. driver spent 51 hours sitting in traffic last year: 15 hours more than in 2021. But still about 50% less than the pre-pandemic high of 99 hours in 2019.
Not all cities were equal and even though L.A. is NOTORIOUS for its congestion, the traffic in Chicago was the worst! Drivers there spent 155 hours stuck on jammed roads. Boston was the second-worst, at 134 hours.
They actually looked at congestion and mobility trends in more than 1,000 cities, across 50 countries. And the most congested city overall is London, England, where people spent 156 hours in traffic. Chicago was #2 worldwide.
