Should Illinois lower its drinking age to 18? One Lawmaker thinks so…

Are young people starting too late to drink? One Illinois State Rep. thinks so.

Republican State Representative John Cabello of Freeport is seeking to lower the state’s legal drinking age to 18. He introduced a bill last week (House Bill 4021) that would amend the Liquor Control Board’s Act of 1934, which originally established Illinois’ legal drinking age.

Since most states saw a decrease in automobile crashes when raising their legal drinking age from 18 to 21, it is unclear what Cabello’s reasoning is.
