Chicago brewery makes “Tom FREAKING Skilling” beer

A local brewery is celebrating the career and legacy of our very own Tom Skilling.

The chief meteorologist is retiring after 45 years at WGN. His last day on air will be February 28.

In honor of his retirement, Hop Butcher For The World, located at 4257 North Lincoln Avenue in the North Center neighborhood, is releasing a “Tom Freaking Skilling” beer. The beer is a Citra, Nelson Sauvin and Amarillo India Pale Ale.

In a Facebook post, the brewery said:

The station we grew up with. The person who always welcomed us to the weather. He who taught us about low jet streams and barometric pressure. Connected the present to historic Chicago events of the past, and through that brought together Chicagoans across generations.

This week, we are pleased to release a beer celebrating the meteorological career of the best to do it. And for it, we picked the best seven day forecast of Citra, Nelson Sauvin & Amarillo on a cumulus cloud base of puffy oats.

Available later this week in our retail shop to-go and on draft in our taproom, and distributed across Chicagoland this Thursday and Friday, we celebrate the 45 year career and retirement of TOM FREAKING SKILLING. Hop Butcher For The World

The “Tom Freaking Skilling” will be available at the brewery last this week.
