Suburban police warn of ‘possible heavy traffic’ as iconic restaurant Jack in the Box opens

Police in suburban Lake in the Hills are warning residents of “heavy traffic” in the area Monday, but it’s not because of construction or road closures — it’s thanks to the highly anticipated grand opening of iconic fast food restaurant Jack in the Box.

The restaurant, located at 320 N. Randall Rd., is part of a slew of Jack in the Box openings slated for Chicago and the suburbs this year. The fan-favorite chain, returning to the Chicago area after 40 years, already opened new restaurants in Plainfield, Countryside and Naperville, with four more Chicago-area locations opening in September.

According to a Facebook post from Lake in the Hills police, the Jack in the Box restaurant and drive-thru will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

“Please be prepared for possibly heavy traffic in the area of Polaris Drive and N. Randall Rd.,” the post said. A similar post from police last week drew more than 600 comments, with hundreds saying they were looking forward to the big day.

“It’s been about 40 years since I had those tacos,” one comment said. “Can’t wait for our location to open.”

A post on Jack in the Box’s Lake in the Hills page said the restaurant will serve the full menu all day, but did not list hours.

“This is where you’ll find one of the largest and most distinctive menus around, featuring everything from burgers to tacos to egg rolls,” the post said. “And because all cravings are welcome at Jack in the Box, we serve our full menu, including breakfast, all day every day. Want a burger for breakfast or breakfast sandwich for dinner? You can always get just what you want, when you want it, at Jack in the Box at at 320 N Randall Rd.”

Jack in the Box did not immediately respond to NBC Chicago’s request for comment on the opening date or hours of operation for the Lake in the Hills location.

Three other Jack in the Box restaurants in the Chicago are listed as opening in September, according to the restaurant’s website. Here’s a full list of upcoming new locations and their opening dates:

  • Carol Stream: 441 E. Geneva Rd., opening September 2025
