Chicago’s annual “You Name a Snowplow” contest is returning for its fourth rendition this winter.
It’s that time for Chicagoans to get creative, as the Department of Streets and Sanitation (DSS) initiative invites locals to submit innovative snowplow names to Chicagoshovels.org by Jan. 10.
DSS staff will choose 25 finalists.
In the second phase, set to begin on Feb. 1, residents may vote for up to six names of their choice by Feb.14. The top six names selected will represent one snowplow in each of the city’s six snow districts.
Following the installation of the winning snowplow names, residents who first submitted them will be offered a photo opportunity and walk away with some “city swag.”
Last year’s winning snowplow names included:
- Bozo the Plown
- Lollaplowlooza
- My Kind of Plow
- Snower Wacker
- Scoop, There It Is!
- Bean there, Plowed That
The year prior, “Skilling It” was named one of the winners, receiving the most votes, with a then-retiring Tom taking photos with the plow.
