South Side philanthropist Dr. Willie Wilson has announced another gas giveaway on April 4.
Wilson, who says this is his 20th giveaway, spent $200,000 for free gas and an upcoming grocery giveaway.
The initiative is first-come, first serve and people will receive $35 in free gas beginning at 7 a.m.
In 2022, he held a similar $200,000 gas giveaway. Drivers told WGN News then that the giveaway lasted for about three hours and some vehicles lined up at 2 a.m. — causing traffic gridlocks.
“Rising gas and grocery costs has compelled me to help my fellow citizens. The war in Iran has driven gas prices up more than 70 cents a gallon,” Dr. Wilson said. “Also, citizens are still struggling with high food prices. I hope my efforts will help to ease the pain of rising gas and grocery costs.”
Wilson said that he will be providing $25 grocery cards over the next few weeks at various churches and residents can check his Facebook page soon for the locations.
