New book takes you backstage and onstage with rock’s most iconic performers

A life in rock and roll photography explodes on the pages of “Rock & Roll: Concert and Backstage Photographs from the 1970s and 1980s” by Larry Singer. Singer shot for legendary rock mag Circus when that magazine was one of the definitive rock and roll monthlies.

There’s a lot of iconic, frame-worthy stuff in here. The pics of an emaciated Alice Cooper from 1978 reveal a just-about-to-enter-treatment Alice, all skin and bones and unsettling to look at.

Few things say “rock in the 80s” more than Motley Crue and Ozzy playing at the three-day US Festival in California.

Even fewer things say “music of the 80s” like A Flock of Seagulls at the US Festival. (A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS IS HERE THIS WEEK FOR OUR “ATTACK OF THE 80s” SHOW!)

In a book of iconic pics, Mick on the “Tattoo You” tour is about as emblematic of rock and roll as it gets.

Then again, so is a windmilling Pete Townshend.

If you finish the book and want your hands on one of Singer’s prints, the only place you can get them is from Chicago-based David Leonardis Galleries.

Singer has another book on the way, “I SHOT ROCK & ROLL,” about his work as a newspaper photographer.
