Chicago-style hot dogs, pizza get Savannah Bananas twist at games

The Savannah Bananas bring a signature style of baseball to the field, but fans at this weekend’s games will get a unique spin on some favorite food items.

Chicagoans are of course proud of a variety of dishes, including pizza, Italian beef sandwiches and hot dogs, and Delaware North Sportservice, the hospitality partner of the White Sox, is putting a Bananas-spin on many of those iconic treats.

Among the offerings will be a “Chicago-style Banana Dog,” featuring a hot dog, banana pico de gallo and classic hot dog toppings.

Beggars Pizza stands at Rate Field will also serve an Italian beef and banana pepper pizza during the two games on Friday and Saturday.

A host of banana-themed desserts will also be available, including banana splits, banana-flavored cotton candy, and dishes of banana pudding with Nilla wafers and whipped cream, according to the company.

“We wanted to match the Bananas’ energy with a menu that’s just as fun, flavorful, and unexpected,” said Joey Nigro, general manager for Delaware North at Rate Field. “These offerings are a celebration of creativity and community – and we can’t wait for fans to dig in.”

The Savannah Bananas will also bring their signature “Banana Beer” to the ballpark, and fans can also purchase souvenir soda cups and popcorn boxes, according to a press release.

Advanced parking has already sold out for both games over the weekend, according to the White Sox. The pregame plaza party will open at 2 p.m., with a variety of shows prior to the start of the festivities on the field beginning at 6:30 p.m.

First pitch is set for 7 p.m. both nights.
