Two of the best malls in the country just happen to be located in suburban Chicago, according to a new “reader’s choice” report for 2025.

The report, from USA Today, was part of the publication’s “10Best” awards, which spans categories of dining, travel, entertainment and more. Some readers’ choice categories also included rankings of malls across the country, with editors nominating their top choices and readers determining the final winners.

In two of those categories — “Best Shopping Center” and “Best Outlet Mall,” popular suburban Chicago shopping destinations ranked high.

“The most remarkable shopping centers aren’t just places to buy things; they’re community gathering spots that provide a clean, safe, and enjoyable environment for their many visitors,” the report said, weighing a variety of factors, including stores, dining, entertainment options and guest experience.

In the “Best Shopping Center” category, Oakbrook Center Mall, in the western suburbs, ranked No. 4 on a list of 10.

The open-air shopping mall is has “green spaces filled with interactive art installations, as well as over 170 stores,” along with a mix of upscale retailers and national brands, the entry said

“This incredible honor is a testament to the vibrant mix of retail, dining, and experiences we offer — and most importantly, to the amazing Chicago-area community that continues to support and inspire us,” the mall said in a post about the award.

In the publication’s “Best Outlet Mall” category, The Fashion Outlets of Chicago, in suburban Rosemont, landed at No. 3.

“This recognition reinforces our strategy of bringing shoppers the very best retail experiences and highlights the enthusiasm we see here every day,” Katie Walsh, senior marketing manager at Fashion Outlets of Chicago said in the release. “Top physical retail destinations continue to drive shopper excitement and engagement here in Chicagoland and nationwide.” 

The two-level outlet mall, located near O’Hare International Airport, has more than 130 outlets, including luxury stores like Gucci, Burberry and Versace. Several of the stores at the mall are the first outlet locations for the Midwest, including Sandro, Maje, Laderach, Psycho Bunny and ARC’TERYX.
