Netflix is testing out ads between show episodes

If you’ve been watching Netflix in the past few days, you might have seen something new — ads — which have been popping up to promote other shows on the streaming service.Vulturereports that the ads are appearing for binge-watchers viewing watching several episodes of a series in a row, showing up when an episode ends. The ads show a brief trailer of the Netflix show being promoted, but are skippable after a few seconds. Netflix told Ars Technicain a statement, “We are testing whether surfacing recommendations between episodes helps members discover stories they will enjoy faster. A couple of years ago, we introduced video previews to the TV experience, because we saw that it significantly cut the time members spend browsing and helped them find something they would enjoy watching even faster.” What Netflix didn’t say was how long the testing would last or how likely it is that the ads will become permanent.
