The average American’s commute just hit a record high: 27 Minutes One Way

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, commute times just hit an all-time high.  The average American’s commute was 27 minutes one way last year . . . that’s two minutes more than it was a decade ago.  That might not sound like much until you consider, it’s an extra 20 minutes a week AND 17 extra hours a year!

The average person spends 225 hours, or nine full calendar days, commuting in a year.  Considering that the average commute time is only 27 minutes, I wonder how long a person who works in Chicago and commutes from the burbs is driving every year!
