Alderman wants to change Lake Shore Drive’s name

They just can’t leave Chicago iconic location names alone!  This time, Alderman David Moore of the 17th Ward is proposing to change the name of Lake Shore Drive to Jean Baptiste Point du Sable Drive…  Even the acronym isn’t easy to say!  JBPdSD?…

The last notable downtown Chicago street name change passed with Congress Parkway was switched to Ida B. Wells Drive.  Sorry Congress, you don’t have an iconic song by Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah about you.

A quick history lesson: du Sable was a Haitian-born immigrant who established a trading post and settlement in Chicago in the 1780’s.  Ald. Moore believes the historical figure does not get enough credit in the creation of Chicago.  Nothing against du Sable, but you can’t take LSD from me.
