Paul McCartney’s ‘Carpool Karaoke’ appearance brings on Beatles chart return

Paul McCartney‘s recent “Carpool Karaoke” appearance on CBS’ The Late, Late, Show with James Corden has pushed the Beatles and McCartney back onto the charts. According to Billboard: “McCartney ranks highest on Hot Rock Songs via the Beatles’ 1970 Billboard Hot 100 Number One.  ‘Let It Be,’ which debuted at Number 18; older songs are able to re-enter the Hot 100 or its corresponding genre-based hybrid charts, like Hot Rock Songs, if they have meaningful reasons for their return and rank in a chart’s top half. After McCartney performed ‘Let It Be’ on ‘Carpool Karaoke’ with Corden, it debuted thanks to 1.5 million U.S. streams (a 68 percent gain) and 10,000 downloads sold (up 973 percent) in the week ending June 28th according to Nielsen Music.”

In addition to that, “Macca’s” new “Double A-sided” single is picking up traction, with “Come On To Me” — which was performed in the Corden sketch — entering at Number 24 with “799,000 U.S. streams, 631,000 radio audience impressions and 10,000 sold” as well as hitting Number 34 on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart. “I Don’t Know,” debuted at Number 39 on the Hot Rock Songs list with “428,000 streams, 207,000 in airplay audience and 4,000 sold.”

The Beatles are benefiting from the appearance as well on the magazine’s Rock Digital Song Saleschart with, “Let It Be” hitting Number Six, “Blackbird” Number 10, “Hey Jude” Number 11, “Penny Lane” Number 15, “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” Number 18, and “Here Comes the Sun” peaking at Number 24.
