Remembering Pro Wrestling Interviewer Eugene ‘Mean Gene’ Okerlund

Pro wrestling interviewer Eugene “Mean Gene” Okerlund, an iconic WWE fixture who also provided ringside commentary and hosted shows, died yesterday (January 2nd) at a Florida hospital. He was 76. Okerlund joined World Wrestling Entertainment in 1984, where he interviewed WWE superstars like “Macho Man” Randy Savage, The Ultimate Warrior, Hulk Hogan and Jesse “The Body” Ventura. Ventura, who went on to later serve a term as Minnesota governor, said yesterday that Okerlund was, quote, “the best at what he did, the best straight man interviewer in wrestling history.” Okerlund was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2006.

Here are some of our favorite interviews from Mean Gene’s career.
