There could be a ‘Pee-Wee Herman goes to rehab’ movie in the works

Paul Reubens has been trying for years to make a “dark” Pee-Wee Herman movie about the downside of celebrity.  And in a new interview with the “Hollywood Reporter”, he revealed what it would be about.

In a nutshell, Pee-wee gets out of prison and becomes an “unlikely yodeling star.”  Then he moves to Hollywood and becomes a movie star …but ends up with a severe drug and alcohol problem that turns him into a monster.

He says, quote, “I’ve referred to it as the ‘Valley of the Dolls’ Pee-wee movie.  It’s about fame.”

He’s having trouble selling people on it.  When he collaborated with Judd Apatow and Netflix a few years ago, this is the movie he wanted to make.  But they shot him down, and ended up doing the much more traditional Pee-wee flick, “Pee-wee’s Big Holiday.”

Reubans recently found interest from the Safdie Brothers (the directors of the critically acclaimed Adam Sandler movie “Uncut Gems”).  Now they need to find the money to make it…
