The Chicago Rat Hole has been filled in!

RIP (Rest in pavement) to a popular Chicago treasure.

The ‘Chicago Rat Hole,’ the city’s viral urban wonder, has been filled in. For months, the imprint, which many locals said was caused by a squirrel – not a rat – could be found in the 1900 block of W. Roscoe Street in the city’s Roscoe Village neighborhood.

It had been there for years, neighbors added.

But months ago, a photo of the imprint went viral, thus becoming a tourist site and popular attraction for locals.

There was even a ‘Rat Hole’ wedding!

But 32nd Ward Ald. Scott Waguespack said neighbors grew tired of locals and tourists swarming the area, taking pictures, making noise, and littering the sidewalk with items left as offerings.

So long, ‘Chicago Rat Hole.’
