Conor Bedard makes history with NHL All-Star selection

Chicago Blackhawks rookie sensation Connor Bedard was selected for the 2024 NHL All-Star Game on Thursday, earning the nod as the franchise’s representative at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto in early February.

Bedard, who is 18 years and 171 days old and has played just 38 games in his NHL career, becomes the youngest player in league history to be selected to the All-Star team.

Come the All-Star Game on Feb. 3, the prized rookie will be 18 years and 201 days old. He’ll be 58 days younger than the former record holder, Jeff Skinner, who was 18 years and 259 days old when he debuted as an All-Star for the Carolina Hurricanes back in 2011.

The North Vancouver native was one of the most coveted rookies in league history heading into the 2023-24 season, and he’s lived up to the hype early on after being selected by the Blackhawks with the No. 1 pick in the 2023 draft.

Bedard has registered 33 points in his first 37 games, with 15 goals and 18 assists during that span. He leads Chicago in both categories, and he averages the most time on ice among the Blackhawks’ forwards at 19:30 per night.

Having already racked up a pair of Rookie of the Month awards, Bedard has notched another career milestone with his historic All-Star selection.
