One of Chicago’s most iconic pizza shops was just named America’s top pizza chain as part of a new list from the dining review site Yelp.

The recent report, the site’s first-ever ranking of the nation’s 25 top pizza chains, was determined by customer ratings and reviews from the site, according to a release. Only pizza chains with 60 or more locations were considered.

According to the list, the chain that nabbed the top spot was none other than Lou Malnati’s.

“Being named America’s favorite pizza chain by Yelp users is an incredible honor,” Marc Malnati, Lou Malnati’s owner, said in the release. “For over 50 years, we’ve stayed true to the original Chicago-style deep dish recipe, handmade from scratch using the finest and freshest ingredients. We’re passionate about pizza and people, and the communities we serve. This recognition shows that commitment to quality and consistency matters.”

Nationwide, the chain, which started in Lincolnwood, has more than 70 locations and ships across the country. According to the chain, the Lou Malnati’s pizza’s signature deep dish pizza — with a buttery crust, exclusive sausage blend and Wisconsin mozzarella cheese — is handmade using a “secret family recipe” that’s been passed down for generations.

The chain is also known for its limited edition collaborations and pizzas, including the Chicago Dog Deep Dish Pizza that was available earlier this year.

Rosati’s, also local to Chicago, scored the No. 9 spot on the list, according to editors.

Other chains that made the list also have locations in Illinois, including California Pizza Kitchen, Jet’s Pizza, Domino’s Pizza and Little Caesar’s.
