Sean Lennon posts selfie hanging with James McCartney

Is it the second coming of the Beatles??? It sure looked that way with John Lennon and Paul McCartney‘s look-alike sons Sean Lennon and James McCartney posing for a selfie, which Sean posted on his Facebook page yesterday (August 13th) with the comment, “Peekaboo…” Sean has previously uploaded photos of both he and Stella McCartney and most recently back in May, a shot of him and George Harrison‘s son Dhani Harrison sailing on the Thames River. Although there’s no word whether Sean, now 42 and James, 41 were hanging socially or making some music — one thing is certain; James is holding an acoustic guitar in the photo.Back in 2016, Sean Lennon caught James McCartney’s solo show in Athens, Georgia and went away raving about the gig. Sean — who was booked in the city with his new group, the Claypool Lennon Delirium — stumbled upon posters for James’ gig and took in the show with collaborator, Les Claypool. Pulse asked Sean what he thought of James’ show: “Yeah, he’s very talented, for sure. He’s got a natural gift and his voice is really good. He was great — y’know, I know James since he was a kid, y’know? But, it was just a coincidence that our tours were in the same town on the same night. And yeah, it was amazing, I walked into Athens, Georgia and there was, like, a big poster for James, a big poster for the Delirium, and I was just like, ‘That’s crazy.’ It seemed like a crazy coincidence. So, I went to see him play with Les and it was cool. He played really good.”

A while back James McCartney shed some light on his musical life and the music the most inspired him to Pulse: All the classics, really. Nirvana, the Cure, yeah? Some of those kind of things. Yeah, I don’t really have role models. Y’know, I used to be more into Kurt Cobain and stuff, y’know, but I guess I got into music growing up, like, ever since I was a baby in a way. But, like, I don’t know, maybe when I was five, like, tickling away on the piano, but I guess guitar when I was, um, maybe more like nine.”

FAST FACTS
  • Back in 2012, James McCartney, said that he and the sons of John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr had discussed working together. James, who’s the last of the Beatles‘ musician kids to join the family business, spoke to the BBC about a next generation Beatle kid get together, explaining, “I don’t think it’s something that (Ringo’s son) Zak (Starkey) wants to do. Maybe (Ringo’s younger son) Jason would want to do it. I’d be up for it. Sean (Lennon) seemed to be into it, Dhani (Harrison) seemed to be into it. I’d be happy to do it.”
  • When asked if he thought some type of work it could happen between the offspring, James said: “Yeah, hopefully, naturally. I don’t know, you’d have to wait and see. The will of God, nature’s support, I guess. So yeah, maybe.”
  • James admitted that once he realized he was a musician: “I then dreamt of being better than the Beatles. I’m not sure if I can do that. If anything, I would love to be equal to the Beatles — but even that’s quite tough.”
SIDE NOTES
  • Back in 2016, James McCartney‘s single “Too Hard” from his new album, The Blackberry Train, featured none other than Dhani Harrison on guitar and vocals.
  • The song marks the second time the young McCartney has collaborated with another of the Beatles‘ offspring. Back in 1994, James — along with his parents, Paul and Linda McCartney and sisters Heather, Mary, and Stella — collaborated on an unreleased song with Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon. The track titled, “Hiroshima Sky Is Blue,” has made the rounds on bootlegs, but has yet to see an official release.
