Steve Perry teases new project online

It’s looking as though Steve Perry is about to make some type of major announcement. Best Classic Bands posted: “Perry created a website — StevePerry.com — and established a Facebook page and Twitter account. Each featured the handwritten words ‘I know it’s Been a long Time Comin’. . .’ He also established accounts on Instagram and YouTube. His Facebook account has the verified blue check.” Perry’s first album since 1994’s For The Love of Strange Medicine is expected to drop some time this fall, but fans have gotten used to waiting when it comes to the former-Journey frontman delivering new music.

Last month, ’90s pop rockers Toad The Wet Sprocket posted a video on Facebook of Perry harmonizing with them in rehearsal, with the band writing, “What do you say when Steve Perry crashes your tour rehearsal and wants to sing??? YES!” In addition to that, the “Steve Perry (Journey)” Facebook page posted that on October 7th, Perry will be interviewed on CBS Sunday Morning.

Steve Perry told Pulse that the passage of time only further solidifies his opinion of how incredible Journey was during its heyday: “What a great band we once were. What a great band. I think the older I get the more I’m able to look back at the forest now, ’cause I certainly walked out of the trees. I think everybody was just following their heart and their nose and following that lead. Just doing what we do. We’re a band. We record, we rock, we instinctively reach for what we believe’s a good idea — and argue about stuff, agree, disagree and move forward. And we were just crankin’.”

In April 2017, Steve Perry announced he would release his first new album since 1996’s Trial By Fire — his last fronting Journey. Perry shed light on the new project tentatively due out in October, telling ABC News, “I met someone and I fell in love with this person. And I lost this person to breast cancer four years ago. In the midst of that, I had written some songs, and before I met her I had sketched some. And so about a year ago, I started recording. Basically the record is an emotional expression, and a reason to make one. It’s been a real cathartic experience going back to that emotional place that I thought I would never go back to. And we really have been doing our very best to capture what I think are some timeless songs.”

Perry never officially announced nor released the album. That same month he graciously appeared with the members of Journey at the Rock Hall inductions — but chose not to sing.
